Natural Steady Moisture:

Wool is exceptionally good at stabilizing the soil moisture content and can absorb up to 33% of its weight in water. This means it can act as the soil’s self-functioning water storage system. It absorbs water like a sponge, protecting plants from drowning, then slowly releases this moisture back to the plants during dry periods.
This works exceptionally well if the wool mulch is mixed for layered with the potting mix or soil. This makes the problem of keeping potted plants moist in summer much less of a problem.

Soil Temperature Moderation:

During hot summer days bare soil can reach temperatures of up to 40°C. Wool reflects the sun, so it helps to keep the soil cooler in the heat of summer.
In Autunm when the temperatures are starting to cool, wool will help keep soil warm, extending your plant growing season.

Natural Nitrogen Boost:

Wool and Sheep Dags slowly release nitrogen into the soil as it breaks down. Anecdotal evidence suggests that plants flourish when nourished by this slow-release nitrogen.
Many other garden mulches are high in carbon, which can pull nitrogen out of the soil as they decompose.

Promotes Plant Growth:

Not only does wool and sheep dags contain Nitrogen they are incredibly rich in all sorts of other nutrients like, phosphorus, potassium, calcium, magnesium, iron and sulphur. Once the mulch starts to break down, it releases all these nutrients into the soil and thus feeds the plants.

Natural Long-lasting Weed Control:

The density of raw wool makes it an effective weed barrier. When applied liberally enough, especially when laid over top of the Dag bag, newspapers, or plain cardboard, it can continue to serve this purpose for 1-2 years.

Natural Slug & Snail Control:

For those gardeners who battle slugs and snails in the
garden, wool has microscopic barbs, which serve as an effective deterrent. This makes it a far more superior mulch.

Attractive Appearance:

Gardeners frequently comment that they find wool mulches aesthetically appealing. It darkens as at ages and breaks down.

Reusable:

Remove the wool/dags as needed to rotate your garden plants and crops. Put the used wool on a different plant instead and not in compost bin, as it takes too long to break down if put in compost.
